Detailed Marine Propeller Machining Process List

The structure of marine propellers is relatively complicated. The difficulty of numerical control processing lies in the processing of complex curved surfaces, including blade surface, blade back, blade root fillet and hub surface.

The rough parts of marine propellers are generally machining castings, and the machining allowance is relatively large. The numerical control machining processes of marine propellers mainly include the following:

(1) Machining of propeller hub

The parts processed by the hub are mainly the two end faces. Since the end faces of the hub are used as a positioning reference, the end faces of the hub need to be finished to meet the accuracy requirements. This finishing method is relatively simple and can be completed by ordinary three-axis CNC machine tools.

(2) Paddle blade machining

The part of the blade blade machining is mainly the surface of the blade and the back of the blade. The surface is a free-form surface. It is difficult to process with a three-axis CNC machine tool. Multi-axis CNC machine tools are required. Because the distance between the blades is relatively narrow, tools and blades are easy to appear For interference and collision, it is necessary to obtain the tool-free trajectory of collision-free interference through numerical control machining simulation. The blade surface is generally processed with a ball-end milling cutter, but the machining efficiency is relatively low, and the use of an end milling cutter can improve the machining efficiency.

(3) Leaf root machining

The blade root is the connecting part between the blade and the propeller hub. For large marine propellers, it is difficult to process the blade root using the blade of the blade. The blade root is generally round, and the ball nose milling cutter is used to process the fillet.

(4) Leading and random machining

The shape of the leading and trailing sides of a ship propeller is determined by the surface of the blade. There are two main forms: arcs and straight sides. Generally, a cylindrical milling cutter or a ball-end milling cutter is used to process the contour of the propeller along the contour of the propeller.
